Voting Rights Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a landmark piece of national legislation in the US signed into law in 1965 and outlawed discriminatory voting practices that were responsible for the widespread disenfranchisement of Blacks in the US. What's extremely ironic is this law is still valid and was just signed again in 2006 for the duration of another 25 years... IMHO, for such a law to be still on the books in this day & age is ugly to the core & connects a tremendous amount of dots as to why people of African descent have been disproportionately incarcerated, unemployed & without adequate political representation, etc.
